Chart

As you make your way along the campaign trail, you may decide that it's time to check on how you're progressing. In the bar chart, the red bars tell you how the Republicans are presently doing, and the blue bars tell you how the Democrats are presently doing.

Scan campaign headquarters and double-click the bar-chart hanging on the wall or click Chart on the menu at the top of the screen.

  1. Popularity:
The first two bars tell you what percentage of the voters are likely to vote Democratic (blue) and what percentage are likely to vote Republican (red).

  2. States:
The second two bars tell you how many states the Democrats (blue) are ahead in and how many states the Republicans (red) are ahead in.

  3. Electoral Votes:
The last two bars tell you how many electoral votes each party currently holds.

  4. Winning:
The horizontal dotted line across the electoral votes in the chart tells you what it takes to win. You will need to get 270 or more of the 538 electoral votes to win the election.

(Interestingly, you do not need to win the majority of the popular vote to win the election. You can win the election even if you have less than 50 percent of the popular vote as long as you get 270 or more of the 539 electoral votes.)
