Taking a Stand

During a campaign, voters are usually concerned with several key issues.   Your goal is to take a stand on an issue that will appeal to a wide population of voters without offending your supporters.   Hint: A candidate’s stand generally doesn’t change drastically or people would begin to distrust him or her.   You can, however, soften your campaign message to appeal to more voters by moving more to the center on some issues.

  • Click Issues on the menu at the top of your screen.
  • Pick the issue you want to give a speech about.
  • Click OK to proceed.   This will display the issues screen.   The left screen gives the liberal position of an issue.   The middle gives the centrist position, and the right gives the conservative position on an issue.   Democrats often fight to win the support of the liberal or left wing of the party.   Republicans often fight to win the support of the conservative or right wing of a party.
  • Designate your position on the issue you selected by moving the arrow at the bottom of your screen to the left or to the right.
  • As you arrive at each campaign stop, you are asked which issue you will feature in your speech. If you have not yet set your stand on that issue, you will also have to set your stand.
  • Each advertising campaign will also feature an issue. If you have not yet set your stand on that issue, you will also be asked to set your stand.
