Scheduling Visits

Given that you are limited by time and money, you can’t possibly campaign in every state.   Sure, it would be fun to visit Hawaii, but the time and expense might too much given that they only have 3 electoral votes.   You have to focus on those key states that will help you win the election.   Target “swing states” where no candidate has a lock on the voters.   Don’t spend a lot of time in states you’re assured of winning, but don’t completely neglect your loyal supporters either.

Note: The number of electoral votes each state gets is based on the state’s population.   In all of the states but two (Maine and Nebraska), the winner of the popular vote gets all of the electoral votes in that state.   Highly populated states, such as California, Texas, Florida, Illinois, New York and Pennsylvania are where a lot of campaign action takes place.
